If you have children in the public school system, more than likely you know what it’s like to get the dreaded lice outbreak letter. Immediately your scalp starts to crawl because all you think about is that those little critters have somehow invaded your hair and are laying their nasty eggs all over the place. Ewww!
Having two boys, we’ve received that letter a few times, but so far have managed to avoid the critters coming home on our little ones’ heads. We believe that this Head Cootie Deterrent Spray is part of the reason. Every morning we spray their hair down with this not only to tame their crazy bed-head, but also in hope that those nasty little bugs will think they smell awful and find someone else to bother. Nice thing is, it contains no toxic chemicals, smells great and is super simple to make!
HAIR COOTIE DETERRENT SPRAY
Spray bottle (ours is 8 oz and can be found at Target or Walmart-we use plastic because boys + glass + tile floors = trouble)
1 Tablespoon Witch Hazel (although vodka works well also)
8 drops Young Living Lavender Essential Oil
8 drops Young Living Rosemary Essential Oil
5 drops Young Living Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil
5 drops Young Living Tea Tree (Melaluca Alternfolia) Essential Oil
Place the tablespoon of witch hazel (or vodka) in the empty spray bottle. Add all essential oils; shake. Fill with water and shake again. Spray everyone’s head down daily to keep those yucky critters away!
